But remember…Vienna is what you make it, the decision is yours!
Climb the tower of St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the city’s most emblematic sight for amazing views of the Austrian capital Take a stroll on glamorous Kärntnerstraße and chill on the terrace of the renowned Skybar, located on the top floor of the famous “Steffl”-department store to see Vienna from above!
Get an impression of how imperial life used to be. Spacious, relaxing parks close to the city centre. Walk up Gloriette hill for more panoramic views of Vienna while enjoying a Mélange (coffee with milk) a typically Viennese drink.
Take Tram 1 or 2 around the Ringstraße and see some of Vienna’s most beautiful 19th-century buildings. Spend the tour bus money you save on coffee and cake at the Hotel Sacher café - one of the most traditional hotels in Vienna, located right next to the Staatsoper (opera house).
...with its numerous bars and clubs for every taste that are situated in the arches of the old city train station (today metro U6). Finish off at dawn with a beer and a “Käsekrainer”(sausage with cheese)hotdog at one of the food stands outside once the clubs are closed – you won’t be the only one!
...one of the most stylish locations in modern Vienna. State-of-the-art bars, restaurants and museums situated in an old imperial complex. Go to the Café Leopold in the evening and see the place change from touristy café during the day to one of Vienna`s top night spots where you can drink and dance till the early morn.
Don’t waste your money cruising around town in one of the outrageously expensive “Fiakers” (horse coaches), it’s an expensive tourist trap. For a genuine insight into the history of Vienna and Austria, go to the Sisi-Museum in the Hofburg
If you feel like grabbing a bite to eat, stay away from the usual suspect burger places. At the numerous food stands on the streets and squares you can get anything from freshly prepared kebabs to pizza which are tastier and cheaper.
Do not park on the street in the city centre - a big part of Vienna (districts 1-9, and 15) is a short-parking zone, where you can park with parking tickets for a maximum 2 hours. It is more convenient to use "Park and Ride" garages (garages at the underground stations) - it is cheaper, easier. The underground offers fast connections to all the essential attractions in Vienna.
There are lots of small bakeries all over Vienna, where you can buy wide choice of tasty specialties.
It is the most expensive part of Vienna and the shops are full of tourists. It’s fine for a walk around, but for those who would like to do some shopping, w recommend one of the shopping centres on Mariahilfer strasse, Favoriten strasse or one of the street markets (f.e. Naschmarkt).
