Sacher Torte
Sacher Torte

Franz Sacher invented the Sacher torte in 1832 and you can try this Viennese speciality in almost any cafe today, although the best place to try it, of course, is the Sacher Hotel. Sacher torte is basically a 2 layer chocolate sponge cake with a thin layer of apricot jam in the middle and is often served with whipped cream. The recipe for this cake is a well kept secret, although many have tried to imitate the cake. The most famous copy of the Sacher torte was, and still is, made by the rival company “Demels”. Why not try both and compare the two?
